Dayton

Clyde "Nelson" Tharp Sr., a beloved family man who touched the lives of many, passed away on September 17, 2024, at the age of 68 in Dayton, Ohio.

Born on September 9, 1956, in Dayton, Nelson showed an early affinity for creativity and invention, a passion which would lead him to achieve commendable success with 18 patents in mechanical design engineering. His educational journey through Kiser and Sinclair Community College laid the foundation for a career that reflected both his intellect and his determination.

Nelson was a man of many interests, talents, and undeniable devotion to his family. He could astound everyone with his remarkable skill on a unicycle, and he was no stranger to friendly competition when it came to sports such as ping pong and bowling. His love for the ocean, his Harley's "Leroy" and "Elvis", and support for UK basketball were just a few of the ways he found joy in life. His competitive spirit was matched only by his playful nature and generous heart.

In addition to his incredible achievements and interests, it was Nelson's sweetness and humor that truly endeared him to those around him. He was a loyal husband, the best father, and a friend who could always be counted on.

Nelson leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Tina Tharp, who was the love of his life. His legacy is carried on by his children: Carissa Jenkins (Greg), Michelle (Sean) Lawwell, Lisa (Brandon) Wagner, Jesse Tharp (Abby), September Tharp (Brad), MaKenna Tharp (Josh), Tyler Tharp, and Garrett Tharp (Jillienne), Audrey Tharp (Craig); brother, Eddie (Chris) Tharp; mother-in-law, Wilma Sparks; sister-in-law, Becky (Greg) Wargo; brother-in-law, John Leeper; aunt, Dorothy Flynn; treasured grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Also survived by childhood friend, Dave Burden.
