When he returned to the states, he was an instructor for new recruit basic training in the use of weapons at Fort Rucker Alabama. After his military service, he came to Dayton Ohio to find work, then returned to Tennessee to marry Mildred Cunningham and bring her to Dayton with him. He was employed with General Motors for 43 years where he worked as a skilled tradesman. Family was of utmost importance to him and he devoted his life to providing and caring for them. He loved working on cars and anything else needing repair; he was a gardener, a bowler, a bike rider, a corn hole player, a storyteller, a lover of music, and enjoyed spending many hours researching his family tree.
