Clifford Hicks, Jr., known affectionately by family and childhood friends as "Sonny", 80 years old, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at Kettering Health Dayton. He was born on October 12, 1942, in Selma, AL to Clifford Hicks and Johnnie Mae Long, nee: Mitchell.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Hicks, mother, Johnnie Mae Long, and brother John Albert "Johnny Boy" Craig.
Clifford is survived by his children, Clifford D. (Ashley) Hicks, Keisha Ringo, and Mubashshir Asmar Abdul-Malik who was like a son to him; His grandchildren, Dorian Hicks, Kameron Hughes, Jurni Woodson-Hicks, Crystafer Ashley Eskridge, Lilia Ringo and Caleb Ringo; and one great-grandson, Dorian Hicks, Jr.; His siblings, Geraldine (Clark) Williams, Annette (Marvin) Davis; His former wife, friend and co-parent, Dorothy Hamilton; His uncle, Eugene Todd Hicks and his aunt, Josephine (Doug) Smith, as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, dear family and friends.
Clifford was a devoted grandfather and loyal friend who cherished spending quality time with his children and loved ones; he was a United States Army veteran and a retired general contractor. Clifford enjoyed fishing, bowling and was always up for a friendly, but competitive game of cards. He especially loved to play dominoes, as he acquired multiple sets over the years. Clifford was a proud Selma native, which was a significant locale within the civil rights movement. He "marched to the beat of his own drum" and appreciated the uniqueness of others. Clifford will be deeply missed by all who knew him

Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 10:00 am to 10:50 am with services beginning at 11:00am, all at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, OH 45424. Clifford will be laid to rest in Dayton National cemetery with full military honors.
