Claude Ray Hudgens

HUDGENS, Claude Ray, 84 of Miami Township passed away Friday, January 20, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude B. and Elsie Hudgens; son Bruce Hudgens; and brother John Robert Hudgens. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Hudgens; son Jeffrey (Doris) Hudgens; daughter Claudia (Mike) Watson; three grandchildren: Sean Hudgens, Christiana and Graham Watson. Claude was born in Hudgens, IL on July 4, 1921 and served in the Army Air Force Air Transport Command during WWII. He received a B.S. from the University of Southern Illinois and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He then worked as a chemist for Mound Laboratories in Miamisburg for 41 years. A man of great intellect and diverse interests, he was a life-long student of the sciences and humanities. He was a 50-year member emeritus of the Amercian Chemical Society. Claude also enjoyed many years of round and ballroom dancing. Visitation will be from 1-2:00PM on Monday, January 23, 2006 at the Newcomer Funeral Home (3940 Kettering Blvd.), where funeral services will begin at 2PM, Rev. Del Harper, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Claude's memory to Hospice of Dayton, where he received wonderful care.
