Vandalia - Charles (Chuck) Bernard Newberry, 80, soul has flown Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 at the Grandview Medical Center in Dayton after a heroic battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Linda (Burns) Newberry; his daughters, Kelly Nance, her husband Paul "Tim", Cheryl Kettlehake and her husband Tommy; his sons, Matt, his wife Kelly, John, and Charles; his grandchildren Chris Nance, his wife Dorrie, Dana Hunter, her husband Jason, Tom Kettlehake, his wife Kayla, Mindy Chandler, her husband Billy, Conley Newberry, Brandi Newberry, and Trevyn Newberry; many great-grandchildren; and his siblings Sybil Drinnon, Phil Newberry and his wife Sharon.
The way is lit for him by his parents James and Eva (Hull); and his siblings Ola, J.D., Marjorie, Harold, Tom, Alma, Billy, and Ronnie.
Born in Pennington Gap, Virginia, in the midst of the Great Depression, he developed a character as strong as the Appalachian Mountains from whence he came. He spent most of his adult life in the Dayton, Ohio area working and raising a family.
In his early years, he worked as a construction worker and completed one enlistment in the United States Army as a mechanic. Later in life he would spend years as a truck driver and security guard for General Motors. He is the epitome of the hard working family man, and stands as a pillar of the ethic our nation is built on. He will be missed.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd., Dayton. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Dayton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
