Christopher Scott Carlson, born March 9th, 1986 in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 28, 2023. Though his life was brief, Chris' legacy is rich with laughter, love, and the joy he brought to those who knew him.
Chris’ journey began with a deep passion for hockey. At nine years old he started as a goalie with the Joliet Jaguars and over the years progressed to the Team Illinois Hockey Program. His remarkable talent opened the door to join USA Hockey’s National Development Team where he played for both the U17 and U18 teams. Chris would go on to play net for the Ohio University Bobcats. While at Ohio University, Chris earned a Bachelor’s degree in Specialized Studies and a Master’s degree in Recreation and Sport Science. At the end of his playing career Chris transitioned to coaching where he found a joy in mentoring others.
Chris shared a birthday with his daughter Holly, who was born on March 9th, 2013 with his first wife and later dear friend, Leah. Chris cherished Holly deeply and took immense pride in watching her grow into the young lady she is today. Despite their separation, they remained devoted parents, united in their love for Holly.
In March of 2016, Chris met Renee, the love of his life. They married in August 2018 in Gatlinburg, TN., blending their families with their three children—Savannah, Hunter, and Holly along with a lively assortment of pets. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, happiness, and lots of pet hair.
Chris’s peaceful departure leaves a void, but his memory will forever be cherished. He was welcomed into heaven by loved ones who had gone before him. Chris's life was a testament to the strength of love and friendship. He would want us to remember him for the joy, laughter, and kindness he so generously shared through his endearing sense of humor.
Chris is survived by his wife Bertha Renee Carlson, daughter Holly Carlson, and Stepchildren Savannah and Hunter Wallace, in addition to his parents Joyce and Rick Carlson, brother Rick Carlson Jr., sister-in-law Courtney Carlson, and countless friends and family that loved him dearly. Chris’ memory will live on in our hearts and we are eternally grateful for the time we had with him.
