BYRD, Christopher Jeffrey, age 34, of Dayton, born to Jeffrey and Diana Byrd, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2013 while vacationing on a golf trip in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
He is preceded in death by his grandfather, F.D. Elkins and aunt, Becky Bedell. In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by his loving sister, Harmony (Will); grandparents, Gusteen and Clarence Byrd; grandparents, Fred and Jean McDaniel; aunt, Paula Lamb; uncle, Randy Byrd (Tina); cousins, Caleb Lamb and Alex Byrd; canine companion, "Junior", as well as many friends, which include Chad Walther of Community Golf Club and Pat Flanagan of Flanagan's.
Christopher is a 1997 graduate of Carroll High School, completing his BA in Sports Management at Wilmington College in 2002. Christopher was an avid soccer player from his adolescence to his collegiate career. Club teams include: Stingers, Rapids, Team Dayton, Dayton F.C., and Franco's Premiere. Chris also served as head coach for the Gunners FC Club Team. Chris played his freshman soccer year at the University of Dayton on athletic scholarship finishing the remaining three years at Wilmington College, to conclude his collegiate career. Chris was also an avid golfer, volunteering his time at Community Golf Club on Sundays. Chris's passion for golf included his weekly tee times with Dad, weekly team play at Community and many rounds played with his friends. Chris, we will always remember your hole in one on January 20th of this year, par 3 hole 5.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Golf Course to assist in the erection of a memorial bench.
