Charley Max Peacock, age 83, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at his residence. He was born February 6, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio, to Charley and Eugenie (Amend) Peacock-Griffith. He married Carole Ann Carr on November 17, 1957 in Malden, Massachusetts and if asked, he would say his greatest accomplishment in life would be his 60 years of marriage to his beloved Carole.
Charley was a 1953 Stivers High School graduate and proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1956 -1957, serving on the destroyer USS Wadleigh DD-689. He was a member of The George L. Marshall, Lodge # 734, Dayton, Ohio and the Antioch Temple of Dayton, Ohio, where he was a part of the motorcycle corps. Charley spent his 40 years plus working between NCR, H and H Industries, Kettering Bike Shop and retired from Long John Silver's. Charley was an avid bicycle and motorcycle rider, riding his motorcycle any where from New York to California to the Arctic Circle. Some of his most memorable motorcycle rides were the Iron Butt Challenge (1000 miles in 24 hours) and the Deal's Gap Dragon's Tail. Anyone who knew Charley knows that if it involved an engine, he was all in. From street cars in the 50's, to a fuel dragster in the 60's, to mini-bikes and motorcycles into his 80's, Charley was there.
He loved camping and motorcycle riding with his family, and was always available as Mr. Fixit. Charley loved his family dearly, but was known as Papa Charley to many of Carole's children she watched in her home daycare. He will be greatly missed by all.
Charley is survived by his wife, Carole; four children, Steven Charles (Teri Kennard) Peacock, Michael Ray (Donna) Peacock, Patricia Ann (Scott) Peacock-Byrum and Douglas Allan (Colleen) Peacock; five grandchildren, Andrew Peacock, Taylor Peacock-Ross, Christopher Byrum, Michael V. Peacock and Melissa Byrum; one great grandchild, Kaylax Monroe; a brother, Harry Peacock; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Dorothy Allen and Ruth Pendred.
