SHEERS, Dr. Charles Alvin, 72, of Miamisburg, Ohio, formerly of Huntington, died October 15, 2009 at home following a long Alzheimer's journey. Dr. Sheers graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M. 1964, Th.D. 1969) following his undergraduate studies at Appalachian Bible Institute, Southeastern Bible College, and Marshall University. He was an ordained minister, and underwent language training in Costa Rica. He served as a missionary in Colombia, South America from 1970 till 1999 with The Evangelical Alliance Mission. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cathy Sheers, who served the Lord with him in Costa Rica and Colombia. Their three sons, Matthew (Sandy), Titus (Cynthia), and Nathan (Kelly), and their eight grandchildren (Rebekah, Sarah, Hannah, and Samuel; Benjamin, Joshua, and Christian; and Caden) celebrate his life of service and example.
He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Alice Sheers, and his father Gaylord Sheers. Charles was the oldest of four children, and is survived by Steve Sheers, Judy Swann, and Mary K. Thomas. He is also survived by his aunt Lorena Waltz Smith (Charles), Alice Nicholson and Sandy Zachwieja (Ted).
Family will receive guest Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 1:30 to 2:30 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory ( 3490 Kettering Blvd., Kettering, OH 45439) with services immediately following.
A memorial service will be held in Huntington in mid-November at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Mission's Fund of Grace Gospel Church, Huntington.
