Charles Myron Shartle, Jr., age 91 of Fairborn, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2018. Charles was born in Dayton to the late Charles M. Shartle, Sr. and Lila Ellen Shartle. Charles graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1945. After graduation, Charles enlisted in the United States Army. He faithfully and honorably served during WWII in the European Theater. After his service, Charles continued to serve his country in a civilian role with the federal government.
Charles had a passion and love for golf and enjoyed listening to jazz music. He was one of the founding members of Greene Country Club. Charles had a passion for life and always knew how to have a good time. He was a loving, caring, and generous husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy Shartle; and grandson, Anthony Shartle.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory, devoted son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Brenda Shartle; daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Jon Anderson; sisters, Phyllis (Jack) Johnson and Nancy Foster; life-long friend, Bob Swigart; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Celebration of Charles's Life will take place on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 4pm at Newcomer Funeral Home - Beavercreek Chapel. Visitation for one hour prior (3pm-4pm). Military Honors to be rendered at service.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Heartland Hospice for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles memory to the Children's Ministry at First Church of the Open Bible, Springfield.
