Charles Roberts

Charles R. Roberts, 79 of Jamestown, OH and formerly of Middletown, OH went away to be with the Lord Monday June 4, 2012 at Greene Memorial Hospital. He was born February 24, 1933 to William Virgil and Elizabeth Roberts. His parents preceded him in death, also 3 wives, Ruth (Gebhard) Roberts, mother of his son, Dee (Cochran) Roberts, and Geri (Meadows) Roberts, an infant son, Baby Roberts, brothers, Richard Roberts and infant brother, Carl and a sister, Pauline Sexton.
Surviving is a son, Master Sergeant Charles Roberts Jr., USMC (Ret.), wife, Allyson and grandchildren, Amanda Rae and Tyler James, of Swansboro, NC; brothers, Bill, Earl, and Paul and wife (Ruthie) Roberts; stepdaughter, Missy Gibson of Somerset, KY and stepson, Ron Meadows of Trenton, OH; fiancé and companion, Wilma Ferguson of Jamestown, OH; and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, a niece, and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army with the 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in Action at the age of 17 and the Purple Heart for injuries sustained. He later served in the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic on the B-47 Bomber. Military awards include Army Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with 1 Silver Star, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 2 Bronze Oak Leaves, Republic of Korea Service Medal, WWII Occupation Medal (Germany), and Air Force Longevity Medal.
Charles was a machinist at the American Can Company in Lemoyne, PA for 30 years until retirement. He was also a member of Town Blvd. Church of God, Middletown, OH and recently attended Jamestown Church of Christ.
Visitation is Friday June 8, 2012 from 10am to 11am with funeral service starting at 11am at the Jamestown Church of Christ, Jamestown, OH.
Pastor Steve Rich is officiating.
Interment is in Silver Creek Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75231 and Army Scholarship Foundation, 11700 Preston Road, Suite 660-301, Dallas, TX 75230.
