Charles Michael (Mike) Bettendorf, on February 7th, danced his way into the Kingdom of Heaven and was welcomed by his dad, Paul Earl Bettendorf, his mother, Helena Witt Bettendorf, his sister Helen and his brother, Bing, who all rejoiced to have Mike again in their midst. Left on earth to remember this funny man who touched so many lives are his best friend of 36 years, Pam Bettendorf, his children Tony (Jessica) Bettendorf, Greg (Emily) Bettendorf, Nicole (Rick) Hawkins, Erinne (Gerry) Fullam and Crysta Collett. Mike adored his six grandchildren, Shelby and Tytus Bettendorf, Shepherd and Archie Fullam, Sashel Collett and Emma Hamilton. He also leaves behind a brother Gilbert (Martha) Bettendorf, and two sisters, Betty Lou (Charles) Lawhorn and Sue Ellen Bettendorf.
Mike loved Elvis and Pavarotti, watching Saturday Ohio State football games and eating wings, Oreos, vanilla ice cream and Pepsi. His idea of the perfect gift was a case of cold Pepsi. He loved to eat, and was always bragging to his friends about what he had for dinner the night before. Mike knew no strangers, everyone he made eye contact with became an instant buddy. His goal was to walk through a store and speak to ten new people he had never met. He would help anyone and everyone, no matter what the request. He was the true friend.
He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Vietnam. He was a sports fanatic and played softball, was a member of Bowling's ABA, but will be most remembered for his love of Golf. For many years, he was an amateur basketball official and coach. Mike became a realtor August 30, 1978 and happily would drive through neighborhoods pointing out the hundreds of homes he had sold.
