Charles E. Lewis Jr., a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on January 19, 1952, Charles was a man who devoted his life to his family and community.
Charles was a graduate of Col. White High School, class of 1970. He served in the United States Air Force, where he worked his way to the rank of Sergeant as an Aircraft Maintenance Specialist. To know him was to know his kind heart, generosity, and love for others.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Charles E. Lewis Sr. and Josephine Hobson, who instilled in him the values of kindness, compassion, and commitment to family that he exhibited throughout his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 12 years, Mattie Lewis. Together, they shared a bond that grew stronger with each passing day. Charles took immense pride in his family, which includes his son, Sean Lewis, and three daughters, Tamika VanMeter, Kisha Ingram, and Tyisha Candler. He was also a dedicated father to his son Ryan, who is married to Andreaya Candler. Charles was blessed with many grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and laughter.
Charles is also remembered by his loving siblings: Carletta Lewis (Jackie Jones), Wanda Pope, and Mark (Erica) Lewis. He held a special place in his heart for his cousins, Nate Johnson, Juanita Johnson, and Cinde Adams, each of whom enriched his life in different ways. Additionally, he leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will deeply miss his presence.
Visitation for Charles E. Lewis Jr. will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, followed by a Funeral Service at Newcomer North Chapel, located at 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, OH 45424. The Funeral Service will commence at 3:00pm, beginning with military honors.
Charles touched many lives throughout his life, and although not every individual is named, know that you are not forgotten. He will be remembered for his warmth, integrity, and his unwavering love for those around him. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of his family and friends.
