Charles Horace Dixon

January 8, 1939 — July 7, 2020

Charles Horace Dixon, January 8, 1939 – July 6, 2020. Charlie made the most of the dash.

Charlie was the second child born to Charles M. and Alma (Hickam) Dixon of Kingsport, Tennessee.

Charlie moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1959, married Claudia Cahill, and started working at Kroger. He was blessed with two children from this union, Cheryl and Lorin. He would eventually be employed by Beech-Nut Baby Foods, and S.C. Johnson & Son (Johnson Wax), from where he retired in 1999 after 30 years. After retirement, Charlie worked at Estridge Market in Dayton until October 2019.

On a hot day in June in 1978, he married Joy McGriff. They enjoyed 42 years of marriage and had his third child, Summer.

Charlie's zest for life afforded him many friends, and opportunities to serve. He was a member of John W. Durst F.&A.M. #716, A.A.S.R. (Scottish Rite), and the Antioch Shriners. Charlie served as president of the Dayton Food Trade Association, and was the Treasurer for many years. He was a 40-year member of Church of the Cross United Methodist, where he served as an usher, and his butterscotch pies were requested every year for the ladies' holiday bazaar.

Charlie loved his God, his family, his many friends, gambling, Evan Williams bourbon, Black Jewell popcorn, SPAM, and old-time rock n' roll. He was a blessing to many, and the void his passing created will never be filled.

Preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Lorin, Charlie is survived by his wife, Joy; daughters Cheryl Hewitt of Las Vegas, and Summer (Doug) Cutler of Centerville; sisters Carolyn Davis (Gene Keys) of Kingsport, Tennessee, and Sandi Sheldon (Gary) of Woodstock, Georgia; three grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Charlie asked that donations be made to the Emergency Fund at Church of the Cross (3121 Wilmington Pk., Kettering, OH 45429), made available to those in the church's community who need help paying utilities, etc.

Until we meet again…
