Charles "Charlie" Brewer, a cherished member of the Dayton community, passed away on September 28, 2024 in Centerville, Ohio. He was born on December 21, 1948, in Dayton, Ohio. Throughout his life, Charlie left a lasting impact on all who knew him, celebrated for his ornery demeanor, quick wit, and an infectious ability to make everyone smile.
Charlie enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from Dayton Walther and Meritor at WPAFB. His dedication and work ethic were evident in all his endeavors. A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War and was a Past Commander at the Huber Heights VFW Post # 3283. His commitment to service and community extended beyond military obligations; he found great joy in creating memories and spreading happiness, most notably by playing Santa for children at the VFW and the Children's Home in Xenia.
Educated at Stebbins High School and Miami Jacobs College, Charlie was equipped with knowledge that he shared willingly with those around him. His big heart and straightforward advice often guided others in the right direction. Charlie embraced life with a love for fishing, hunting, and NASCAR, finding great joy in these pursuits. His coined phrase "And the thing of it is," will be carried on by all who loved him.
Charlie's family was his proudest accomplishment. He is survived by his loving children, Sheryl (Russ) Sheeley and Kristin (Kris) Brewer; adored grandchildren, Rusty (Erin) Sheeley, Chelsea (Chris) Simmons, and Kaelyn (Lindy) Brewer; and cherished great-grandchildren, Isaac, Elaina, Boston, and Matthew. He is also remembered fondly by his sister, Charlene Staddon, his girlfriend of many years, Marvalyn Steggemann; step-children: Tibi, Frank and Steve Kelemen; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were lucky to know him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Taylor and Virginia Brewer; granddaughter, Lyndsey Sheeley; and brother, Brian Brewer.
The legacy Charlie leaves behind is one of love, laughter, and the warmth of his big heart.
