Charles F. Avery (Lt. Col. USAF Ret.), age 80 of Xenia, formerly of Beavercreek, OH, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2017. He was born May 14, 1937 in Milford, Massachusetts to Chester and Alice A.(Greenwood) Avery. Charlie married Priscilla Ehnes on June 27, 1959 in Newton, MA.

Charlie served his country proudly in the United States Air Force as a civil engineer, retiring in 1983 after 24 years of service and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. After retiring from the Air Force, Charlie worked six years as an engineer for Systems Research Laboratories in Beavercreek, OH. Charlie graduated from the University of Massachusetts with his engineering degree and later earned his Master's in Engineering from Arizona State. He was a long time member of the Miami Valley Fly Fishing Club, Western Ohio Woodworker's and Dayton Carver's Guild. Charlie and Priscilla were avid square dancers, dancing throughout their military career and retirement years. Charlie dearly loved the outdoors, especially fishing, boating and biking and traveled to many interesting places around the world. He loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by all.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 58 years Priscilla; two sons, William (Jennifer Hammond) Avery and Steven (Erin) Avery; six grandchildren, Aaron, Lyndsey and Chelsea Avery, and Ryan, Daniel and Emily Avery; and a sister, Jane Avery. He is preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be held November 18, 2017 from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Beavercreek Chapel, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. A Funeral Service will follow the visitation at the funeral home at 1:00 pm. Burial will be in Milford, Massachusetts, held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420 or the charity of your choice.
