Charles Allen Sorrell, Jr.

SORRELL, Jr., Charles Allen, of Kettering, OH, passed away at home August 7, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Born August 16, 1929 in Hamilton, OH. Graduated from Miami University in Oxford and Eden Seminary in St. Louis, MO. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Irene (Binder) Sorrell, Sr.; brother, James, and nephew, Michael. Survived by his wife, Alta (Hendrickson) of 47 ½ years; brother, Ray (Connie) of VA; sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Sorrell of New York, Clarabelle Fultz of Eaton, & Carol Smith of TX, and brother-in-law, Leon Hendrickson of West Alexandria, and numerous nieces, nephews, and caring friends. He was an ordained minister for 55 years with the United Church of Christ, serving 46 years in New Lebanon, Eaton, & Moraine, OH and retired in 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Wilkinson St., Dayton. The Rev. Kay Davis-Dudding and Rev. Ray Kaiser officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria. Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Community or a charity of your choice.
