WAGNER, CHARLES (BUCK), age 78, of Dayton, Ohio, departed this life on Friday, May 16, 2014, at Miami Valley Hospital peacefully surrounded by family and friends. He was born April 15, 1936 in Fairview, Kentucky, the son of Clifton and Ida Wagner.
He is survived by his wife Freda of 57 years, son Joe (Renee) and daughter Lydia (Ric) Houser. He was preceded in death by his son Marty, his parents, brother Clifton Jr and sister Dixie. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Chris (Tiffany) Houser, Jason Houser, Jeremy Houser, Jonathan (Amber), Rachelle (Josh), Richelle Halsall, Brittany Halsall and Kirstie (Jonathan) Newsome plus sisters Margaret (Woodie) Ring and Norma (Denver) Lakes, brother-in-laws and sister-in-law Verna Wagner, Bobby Pepper and David (Debbie) Pepper, aunts Jewell Wade and Dorothy Jolley. He has 12 great-grandchildren Jordan, Hannah, Abbigail, Noah, Haidyn, Haley, Travis, Adalyn, Gavin, Mason, Jacob, Madalynn. He was a retired Fleming County Jailer and drove for Kerns Bakery for 20 years.
He was a member of Calvary Open Bible Church. Buck was very active in his community as a member of the Mad River Lions Club, he was a Mason for 50+ years, spent many years as a volunteer firefighter, sixteen years as a city councilmen, member of the Kiwanis Club, Vietnam Vets, American Legion, Eagles, volunteered with Cub Scouts, Mad River Pee Wee Football and Baseball. Buck was an avid fan of University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball and Ohio State Buckeyes football. As a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and neighbor, he will be remembered for his outgoing personality, big heart and never meeting a stranger. His neighbors refer to him as the "Mayor" of the cul-de-sac.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton, Ohio on Tuesday, May 20th, from 5-7 pm followed by a memorial service at 7 pm officiated by Pastor Dan Powell and Pastor Kathy Pittman which will include a Lions memorial.
On Wednesday, May 21, he will return to his Kentucky home of Flemingsburg where he will be at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home and receive visitors from 2-3:30 pm with a funeral service at 3:30 pm officiated by Rev Norman Wasson which will include Masonic Rights. The final resting place will be Elizaville Cemetery in Kentucky.
