Charlene Johnston, age 74 of Kettering, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2017 at University of Cincinnati Hospital. She slipped into eternity with her husband of 57 years,
Reverend Robert W. Johnston Sr. by her side.
She was born at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio on August 6, 1942
to the late Ethridge and Georgia Roach.
She graduated from Fairmont High School, Class of 1960.
Charlene worked at NCR as a lead operator of operations until her retirement in 2000.
After retiring from NCR, she enrolled in a cake decorating class and soon afterwards started her own business, Gram's Creative Cakes.
Charlene is preceded in death by her sisters: Mary, Lena, Rosie and Juanita.
She is survived by the love of her life, whom she married on February 11, 1960,
her husband, Reverend Robert W. Johnston Sr.;
two sons: David A. Johnston and Reverend Robert W. (Tonja) Johnston Jr.
sister: Kaye Norris; one grandson: Carson, six granddaughters: Melissa, Meagan, Dannielle, Payton, Heather and Jessica.
She is also survived by great grandchildren and numerous friends and family,
including long time friend, Vickie Gray.
She enjoyed Facebook, working on computers, baking, shopping and family trips to the Great Smoky Mountains.
Charlene was particularly proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage and her two beloved sons.
Charlene is loved and will be missed by all who came in contact with her.
Her grace, wisdom and love will be remembered in the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home in Kettering, Ohio.
A celebration of life service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with her son, Reverend Robert W. Johnston Jr. and Pastor Ed Peyton, officiating, both of Victory in God Church.
Burial will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
