Catherine Frances Carroll (Haley) died October 31, 2013 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Ben Haley, son Tim, husband, Tom, brother Michael, daughter Pat and grandson John Carroll. She was born in Miamisburg, Ohio on November 5, 1925, moved to Dayton in 1943 to work at the Dayton Daily News, where she met and married her husband, Tom Carroll. She is survived by son, Thomas (Regina) Carroll, Henderson NV, daughters Peggy (David) Coggins, Centerville, OH, Mary Kay Koozer, Melbourne FL, Jane Carroll, Cincinnati, OH and Casey (Bill) Gruszechi, Miamisburg, OH; grandsons, Michael (Wendy) Carroll, Ben (Erin) Coggins, Mike (Annette) Coggins, Matt Coggins and Liam Gruszechi; grandaughters, Jennie Carroll, Molly Koozer, and Rachel Gruszechi. 3 great-grandsons and one and a half great-grandaughters. Nieces, Sharon, Kitty, Donna, Paula and Maureen and nephew Mick.
She had a host of friends and was a member of Assumption Church for 50 years, and now Our Lady of Mercy Church, where she volunteered generously. Cathy worked at the Dayton Daily News, the corner Mac's store when her kids were little and later Stumps Market. She spent her retirement years working for social justice and equality by being an active member of LEAD (Leaders for Equality and Action in Dayton) and volunteered 30+ years in the Assumption/Our Lady of Mercy Food Pantry.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, November 4, 2013 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 220 W. Siebenthaler Ave., Dayton. Interment will follow Mass at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Cemetery in Miamisburg. The family will receive friends at church on Monday morning from 9:00 A.M. until time of Mass. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Hospice of Dayton facility where she passed. As per Cathy's request, in lieu of flowers, donations to be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Association in memory of her grandson John Carroll, or the Assumption/Our Lady of Mercy food pantry.
