Carolyn Joyce Purnhagen

Carolyn Joyce Purnhagen, age 79, of Dayton, passed away January 5, 2025. Carolyn was born in Dayton, Ohio on March 4, 1945 to the late Richard Cherry and Joyce Holderman. 

Carolyn is preceded in death by parents; her husband of 42 years, Gale Purnhagen; as well as many relatives. 

She is survived by daughters, Karla (Darrell) Glass, Kim Buckhannon and Keri (Paul) Steinbrugge; step-children, Keith Purnhagen, Vicki (Rick) Fraley and Doug (Sandy) Purnhagen; grandchildren, Devin, Derik, Joshua, Mikaila, Kylee, April (Roger), Tim (Mary), Chris (Amanda), Gwendolyn (Kevin) and Ricky (Kim); great-grandchildren, Colt, Dominic, Cory (Jayla), Chelsea (Jeff), Chace (Ciara), Courtney (James), Liam, Makeal, Konner, Elijah, Mason, Gabriel and Rocco; great-great grandchildren, Miley, Rebecca, Aubree, Bentlee, Zoe, Marley and Kaison; sisters, Jaylene (Tim) Brewer and Renee (Joe) Cherry-Gough; brother, Donald Cherry; and many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Carolyn worked at Delco where she met her husband. She especially loved being a homemaker. She attended Marshall Road First Church of God for many years. 

In her free time, she enjoyed crochet, sewing, playing cards and board games (especially Yahtzee), listening to music, reading her Bible and praying for everyone. 

Carolyn was kind, loving and giving. She loved being around her family and friends. Carolyn loved sharing Jesus with everyone she met. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Carolyn's memory to Hospice of Dayton (324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton). 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek). A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at the funeral home. 

Carolyn will be laid to rest at Miami Valley Memory Gardens following the service.
