Carolyn S. McVey, age 76 of Riverside, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019. She was born February 13, 1942 in Hamilton, Ohio to the late Thomas Jefferson and Mary Sawyer. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by her brother, Franklin Sawyer.
Carolyn is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Greg and Trish McVey & Mark and Jamie McVey; granddaughters: Tiffany Schirmer, Angie Thomas and Courtney (Aaron) Breeding; great-grandchildren: Jade, Karrington, Carson, Khyler, Chesney, Kayden, Makayla, Nadia and Damian; sisters: Tressa and Janet; brothers: Billy, Charlie and Randy; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Carolyn retired from KMart after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of Agape Family Worship Center. Carolyn was very active in community service and outreach through Agape Distribution Centers II and III. In years prior she fed the homeless in the streets of Dayton and was involved in many outreaches to benefit children at Christmas. She truly had a heart to serve and bless people. Carolyn was a great Bible teacher, ministered as a single's pastor and served in the church from the time she was a very young woman.
Visitation will be held from 12-1 pm on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, where the funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Burial to follow at Mt Zion Park Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Basil Coteral, a lifelong friend and mentor. Contributions may be made in Carolyn's memory to The Hospice of Dayton.
