Carol Jean Kessen, age 80, of Dayton passed away on February 12, 2024. She was born in Dayton on January 4, 1944 to the late John and Virginia Schmalstig. In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her husband, Carl and siblings, Charles, Virginia, Paul, Edward, Katie and Tommy.
Carol is survived by her beloved son, Michael (Tammy) Kessen; grandchildren, Preston (Katie) and Brandon; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Jaxon, and Chandler; sister-in-law, Brenda (Bill) Long and her children, Dawn, Rebecca, David and siblings, Mary Hoelscher and Jerry Schmalstig; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Carol retired from Marianist Mission after many years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her great-grandsons, going to car shows, putting together puzzles and meeting new friends. Carol was well loved by everyone who met her and her infectious laugh will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Newcomer Kettering, 3940 Kettering Blvd. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at St. Helen's Parish, 605 Granville Place. Burial to follow at Dayton National Cemetery.
