HEFFNER, Carl William "Bill" age 76 of Kettering, passed away Saturday, March 18 2006, enveloped in the love of his wife, family, and friends at Lincoln Park Manor. Bill was born March 16, 1930 in Buffalo, New York. As a youth, he was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and was involved in Luther League, where he met his bride- to-be, Margie. Bill graduated from the University of Buffalo in 1953 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After relocating to Kettering, Bill was employed by Westinghouse, Acme, Thiokol, and retired from High Voltage Maintenance in management. He also successfully ran his own company, Hefco Services. Bill was a former member of the Engineers' Club, a member of Dayton Rotary, and was the first president of the National Electrical Testing Association. He enjoyed boating, bridge, annual trips to Miley's Resort in Michigan, and was a great fan of auto racing. In his last years, he gracefully endured the onset of Parkinson's Disease, never losing his sense of humor, generosity, and panache. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Earl Louis and Doris Heffner (Van Aemam), and brother, the Reverend Robert Heffner. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Margie Heffner (Saharoff/Gassner), his sister Barbara Vantine, his children; Daniel (Laurel), Rob (Margot), Karen (Jay) VanHouten, and Barb (Lee) Zimmerman, his grandchildren; Emily, Abby, and Anna Zimmerman, Alix, Sam, and Jenna VanHouten, Todd Heffner and his mother Sandy, and Mira Anderson, daughter of Laurel. Also survived by Margie's cousin and Bill's longtime friend William Roll, MD, and Buddy, Bill's faithful lap dog. The family will have visitation Wednesday, March 22 from 6-8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3940 Kettering Blvd. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 23 at 11:00am at David's United Church of Christ at 170 W.
