Burl J. Queener
Age 89, of Huber Heights, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Hospice of Dayton.
Burl was preceded in death by his parents, Ross & Ida (McNeil) Queener; and by one sister, Aleen Queener Steele.
Burl is survived by his wife of the past 52 years, Helen (Weaver) Queener; six children, Burl James & his wife, Dianna Queener, Elaine & her husband, Charles Crutcher, William G. "Bill" & his wife, Theresa Queener and Catherine Queener & her husband, David Nolin, Peggy Queener, Ross & his wife Cindy Queener; his former wife and mother of Burl & Elaine, Betty (Hermetz) Queener; numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; and by his extended family and many good friends.
During WW II Burl served in the U. S. Army Air Corps as a pilot having graduated from the Mira-Loma Flight Academy and continued his service to the Air Force as a civilian having retired in 1977 from Wright-Patterson AFB with 33 years of service.
Some of his memberships and activities include: Brookville Lodge # 596 F&AM, Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton, Antioch Shrine, Royal Arch Masons Palmyra Chapter # 235 Brookville, a Life-Member of the American Legion Post # 322 West Alexandria, a member of the Ohio State Patrol Auxiliary, and he volunteered at Good Samaritan Hospital. Burl was also a graduate of "Santa Claus School" and was the last official "Santa Claus" for the downtown Rikes Department Store.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, June 22, at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at the funeral home with interment to follow at Arlington Cemetery, Brookville.
