Burger "Burg"B. Penrod

June 3, 1948 — July 17, 2022

Burger "Burg" B. Penrod, age 74 of Fairborn, Ohio passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at Kindred Hospital. He was born June 3, 1948 in Johnstown, PA son of the late Burger Norbit Bechtel and Shirley D. Penrod Bechtel Wells.

Burg married the love of his life and soul mate, Dee Ann (Proulx) Penrod on December 17, 2010.

He received his education from the University of Pittsburgh. Starting his career in information technology back in the 1960s, he also worked in health care at three different hospitals, worked in 3 major universities (Ganmon University, University of Rochester, and University of Pittsburgh), and Fortune 100 Companies. He then went on to serve a 25 year career in the Army Reserves. He became an Officer in the 4th Battalion/92nd Field Artillery. Burg was a Battery Commander of Alfa Battery from 1986 to 1989. He retired from the Army Reserve Military (Ret) in the rank of MAJ, June 3, 2008. Burg loved teaching and became a Certified Microsoft Instructor for several years from 1995-1998. He worked as the CIO (Chief Information Officer), at the Department of Youth Services, State of Ohio from November 2001- May 2014, retiring in 2015. He worked as a Tax Preparation Volunteer at Wright Patterson AFB from 2015-2016 and worked as a Tax Preparation Volunteer at the Fairborn Senior Center from 2015 to 2016. Burg worked at First Financial and Tax Advisors as a Professional Tax Preparer IRSVITA/ICE from 2016-2019.

Burg was such a light in this dark world and he will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. He touched the lives of so many people across multiple generations. From Greg Holland who served under his command of Alfa Battery, "He was loved and respected by all the men he commanded." From Deb Alessio (Funk), who he supervised at the Department of Youth Services, "Burg was an amazing man and boss, Heaven has definitely gained an Angel. He and I were die hard Steelers fans and we would talk about them all the time." During his time with us, he made a point to always help anyone with what ever he could, never second guessing his decision.

Anyone who knows Burg, knows that his beloved wife, Dee Ann, his friends, and his family meant everything to him, each of you reading this was family to him or you wouldn't be here.

Burg is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Dee Ann (Proulx) Penrod. They were married 12 years.

His adult children are, Matthew (Sarah) Penrod, Wesley (Mandi) Penrod, and Emily (Jeremy) Carver; he has seven grandchildren, Bailey, Abigale, Emma, Olivia, Will, Norah and Flynn; he is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
