Brigitte R. Reck "Gitta"

March 18, 1928 — December 23, 2021

Brigitte R. Reck, age 93 of Dayton, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 23, 2021. She was born March 18, 1928 in Berlin, the daughter of the late August and Ruth Bringewald.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Bruce, A. Reck (2001) and husband, Walter A. Reck (2012). Brigitte (Gitta) is survived by her daughter, Tina A. Reck (Mark M. Balazs) of San Diego, CA; her brother, Peter R. Bringewald and wife, Donna of Fredericksburg, TX; his daughters Cynthia S. Lee of Coppell, TX, and Kristen E. Smith of Boulder, CO; and their families.

Gitta grew up in Augsburg. After WWII when she was 20 years old, her family immigrated from Germany to Dayton, where she met Walter (Walt). They lived near Bellbrook/Spring Valley for 50 years. In addition to being a mother and housewife, Gitta worked in the finance dept. at the City of Centerville for many years. She also volunteered reading to younger school children.

Gitta loved celebrating her German heritage with her family, especially during the holidays. She was a longtime member of the Miami Valley Folk Dancers and loved classical music, especially opera. Gitta appreciated the arts in many forms. She also loved to read, sometimes with a book club. In the past, Gitta was a wiz on the sewing machine making clothes for little Tina and for herself, plus ensembles for folk dancing. She could enjoy a day at the beach or a hike in the mountains as well as a walk in a local park. Gitta liked traveling, too - around the country, a couple trips back to Germany, to Canada, one to Hawaii, another to Costa Rica, and to The British Isles.

The past 2 1/2 years, Gitta lived at Elmcroft of Washington Township (now Stoney Ridge) where the staff adored her and appreciated her 'straightforwardness'. Along with her reading and listening to classical music, Gitta enjoyed visiting with friends in the courtyard, participating in some of the many activities offered including arts/crafts, Bingo, weekly exercise classes, and the Friday Happy Hours with live music. She also loved ice cream and cookies!

The family is forever grateful to everyone at Stoney Ridge for their amazing care, friendships, and support for Gitta and her family. Many thanks also to Affinity Hospice.

No services will be held at this time. Should you feel inclined to do so, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Muse Machine or to O'Keefe Music Foundation in Gitta's memory.
