Billy J. Hobbs of Centerville, Ohio, passed away at the age of 84, on the evening of September 8.
Billy was born September 1, 1938, in Powell County, Kentucky to Ernie and Ruth Hobbs. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Alpha Revenna, his daughter Renee Hawkins (Russell), his son Byron Hobbs (Debbie), his grandson Luke and granddaughter Chloe, sisters Shirley Estep (John, deceased) of Stanton KY, Jane Stacy (Gary) of Irvine KY, and Larry Hobbs (Brad) of Leonard TX. His sister Donna Joy Hobbs-White preceded him in death.
Billy moved to Ohio in 1957, met his wife, and started a family. Always a hard worker, he was never too busy to lend others a hand. Billy was especially committed to his Christian beliefs and to his church. In 2002, after he retired, he fulfilled his dream of returning to Kentucky where he built a home and barn and raised a garden. In 2007 he became an ordained deacon at the Jeffersonville Baptist Church in Jeffersonville KY under Pastor Steve Creech. He told his wife that it was one of the greatest experiences of his life. In 2014 he and Alpha returned to Ohio, settling in Centerville. He enjoyed years of remodeling his home, tinkering in his garage, and of course, tending his garden. Billy and Alpha rejoined their former church community, First Baptist Church in Miamisburg. Here, Billy and his best friend Bob Howe regularly visited those church members unable to attend the service.
A service for Billy will be held at the First Baptist Church of Miamisburg, 323 N 11th St, Miamisburg, OH 45342, Friday, September 16 at 12PM after the viewing which will begin at 10AM. He will be laid to rest at Miamisburg Highland Memorial Cemetery. A reception will follow at the church at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ohio Food Bank (https://secure.qgiv.com/for/oaof/ ) or Hospice of Dayton https://www.hospiceofdayton.org/donations/).
