Beverly L. Ellis

November 19, 1937 — November 9, 2017

Beverly Lyndon Oneal Ellis

Beverly Ellis (age79) was an accomplished writer, teacher, and philanthropist. She was equally valued in her family roles as mother, wife, sister and daughter. She was a person who truly and repeatedly made her family proud. She died in her home in Dayton, OH November 10, 2017, following a multi-year struggle to recover from brain damage resulting from an aneurysm.

In 1983 Mrs. Ellis was awarded the Migel Medal, given annually by the American Foundation for the Blind "to honor professional and volunteers whose dedication and achievement have significantly improved the lives of blind and visually impaired people." She served as Director, Delta Gamma Foundation (250,000 volunteers assisting the visually impaired); Member of National Advisory Committee for American Foundation for the Blind; Who's Who Among Women of the Southwest; and Who's Who Among American Women.

Mrs. Ellis taught English and Journalism in Fort Worth, TX. In Louisiana's inter-urban schools she specialized in teaching Vocational Printing/Graphic Art, as well as Vocational English.

As a student she was the editor of her college newspaper, The North Texas Daily. Later she was a columnist for the San Antonio News Express. She also wrote newsletters, technical documentation and more as a corporate consultant.

Her family will remember her as a can-do person capable of rising to any occasion while also bestowing innumerable acts of kindness. In any job or activity that she participated in, she made life better for others in ways both large and small. She could make a person feel like a king or a queen through acts as simple as handing someone a cup of coffee. She was a source of answers and solutions for all who knew her. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) B. Ellis Jr of Dayton, OH; her son, Bret C. Ellis and his wife Andree' LeBoeuf Ellis of Lake Charles, LA; grandchildren Alexandra (Alex) Christine Ellis, a student of Miami University, Oxford, OH, and Cameron James Ellis a student of Barbe High School, Lake Charles, LA; her sister, Marla Oneal Hammond of Richardson, TX; and her nephew, Ross Hammond of Burleson, TX. Preceded in death by her parents, J. Fred Oneal and Ruth Alford Oneal of Burleson, TX; and her son Brian S. Ellis of Dayton, OH.

Following cremation, the family will have a private time of memorial. In lieu of flowers, please donate to American Federation for the Blind.
