Betty Lynn Scherbauer-Spence

Betty Lynn Scherbauer-Spence, age 73, passed away Thursday, September 21, 2023. She was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 4, 1950 to the late Donald and Emma Brannum. In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Spence Jr., ex-husband, Michael Scherbauer; sister-in-law, Barb Brannum; sister and brother-in-law, Vivian and Don Finlay; son-in-law, Henry Richie; brother-in-law, Dennis Goodbar and niece, Vicki Stallard.

Betty is survived by her only daughter, Shanon Richie and Jeffrey Fairchild; her one and only granddaughter, Madison Richie; her close brother, Donald "Bill" Brannum Jr.; sister, Linda (Richard) Waugh; sister, Bonnie Goodbar; brother, David Brannum; several nieces and nephews as well as other family members and close friends.

Betty was a graduate of Central State University and a retired special education teacher. She devoted most of her life to her students and helping anyone she could. Giving to others is what made Betty happy. She also loved hunting and eating morel mushrooms, especially with her brother, Bill.There was never a person that met Betty that did not like her; she was just one of those people everyone loved. She will be remembered as a very loving and kind woman and the very best Mom and Memaw. Betty will be deeply missed and forever loved by those who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Road, Beavercreek,Ohio 45432). A Graveside service will follow at Aley Cemetery in Beavercreek.
