Betty Lee Duckworth
Age 89, of Bethany Lutheran Village, passed away March 7, 2012.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Henry (Hank) and parents, David D. and Edith Hatfield.
She is survived by her brother, David (Lucille) Hatfield; two children, Dan Duckworth, Dawn Beckman; niece, Ruth (Dave) Jeffords; nephews, John (Teresa) Hatfield and David (Michelle) Hatfield. Long time friends, Jane and Dr. John Hawkins and son, Ben, of Georgia and Doris Cacciatore of Pennsylvania maintained close friendships with Betty over the years and brightened her days with cards, calls and special remembrances.
Betty was a 1940 graduate of Roosevelt High School and began a secretarial career at Frigidaire in the Research Lab. She was a long-time member of Far Hills Baptist Church and served faithfully as its librarian for over 25 years initiating new programs and expanding resources. Betty is well remembered by her church friends as a loving mentor to the library staff. She and her husband also attended Fairhaven Church in later years and Betty especially enjoyed the special bond with her Fairhaven Sunshiner, Kris Bellin. She had a strong faith, loved Bible study, enjoyed sewing, golfing with her husband, and she had begun to write her life story which showed her wit and adventurous spirit. The family would like to express gratitude to the Bethany nursing staff for their loving, personal care during her many years in Arbor and Woodview; they were devoted caregivers.
