Betty Ann (Fleming) Hurst passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2023 in Leonardtown, Maryland due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was 83 years old.
Betty was born on May 28, 1939 in Virgie, Kentucky to the late John H. and Trenna (Compton) Fleming. She is preceded in death by husband Orville E. (Gene) Hurst; brothers James, Bill, and Charles R. Fleming; sisters Ruby Adkins, Wanda Blankenship, Joyce C. Salley-Little, and Loretta Schrake. She is survived by her son Steve Hurst, his wife Jennifer Hurst, and grandsons Nathan and Ryan Hurst.
Betty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehead State University in 1963 and a Master's degree in Library Science from Kent State University in 1990. She moved to Beavercreek, Ohio in the mid-1960's and married Gene Hurst on August 17, 1968. They were happily married for 46 years until Gene passed away in 2014.
Betty lived in the Beavercreek area for more than 50 years. She held various library positions, including reference librarian at the Beavercreek Community Library for over 20 years. She helped to establish and attended Beavercreek Christian Church. She enjoyed singing soprano at church, both solos and in choir. She loved singing with family and even weddings.
Betty moved to Maryland in 2017 to be near Steve and his family. She bravely battled Alzheimer's for years until her death.
A memorial service will be held at Noon on Saturday January 14 at Beavercreek Christian Church, 3009 Shakertown Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45434. Lunch will follow at the church.
