Betty Hanahan (Bessie G. Hicks)
Betty was born to Gilbert and Elsie Hicks on May 18, 1933 in Jamestown, Tennessee. She lived an adventurous life in her youth that included living in a variety of areas from New York City to Dallas, Texas. She loved to travel with her best friend and sister, Bonnie (Osda) Dillon. They travelled all over from Alaska to various areas of Europe, enjoying all the various countries and cultures. In 1954, she settled in Ohio after she met and married her husband, Bobby L. Hanahan, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2018. They were married for 64 years. Betty was the youngest and only surviving member of her family of origin.
Betty is survived by her only son, Bobby L. Hanahan Jr., her beloved granddaughter, April (Ryan) Gerken, and 4 loving grandsons, Bobby L. (Ashley) Hanahan III, Jonathon (Brittany) Hanahan, Wesley Hanahan, and William (Indigo) Hanahan. She was blessed with 13 great grandchildren, Calla, Caden, Lila, Liam, Chase, Chance, Brylee, Taylor, Skyler, Scarlette, Logan, Christian, and Theodore.
Betty was a sister of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses of Tipp City, where she made several wonderful friends (Mark and Mandy Wilson, Joyce Gibson, Sherri Long, and Gayle Hall). They loved and served her as if she was their family. Their generosity and love will be remembered by our family for years to come.
Betty had many loves in her life. Her family was the one thing she was most proud of. She loved to share pictures of her great grandchildren and would beam with joy about their good genes. She loved to have Marion's pizza, good Mexican food, a glass of wine, and laugh while watching Golden Girls and Everybody Loves Raymond. She could play a mean game of checkers or Rummy. Weekends with her were the absolute best, especially when she was able to make her famous biscuits and gravy. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, generous spirit, great stories, and the love that she shared with all who knew her. Betty loved her late night chats with her Dallas connection Mandy. They developed a wonderful relationship which made Betty's heart full. She truly was a contagious spirit and one that won't soon be forgotten. May her great grandchildren continue her legacy of love, as they truly were her pride and joy. Grandma's hold our tiny hands for just a little while, but our hearts forever.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Dayton National Cemetery.
