Betty Jane Espy, age 97 of Dayton, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2016. She was born in Dayton to the late Joseph and Florence Herold on July 4, 1919. She went on to graduate from Fairmont High School in 1938. After graduating she met her husband Donald Espy and they married in 1941.
Betty found her calling as a dental assistant after working many years at McCall's. She later went on to work as a saleswoman at Jemima Russell's (DeClark's) and then Elder Beerman's until she retired. She will be remembered fondly by those close to her as "Big Red".
Betty enjoyed spending time with and doting upon her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving, caring, and devoted mother, Nana, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Espy in 1976; son, Ricky; and twin daughter, Donnah Dieterle.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory, children, Diannah (Joseph Henderson), and Kevin (Sue) Espy; son-in-law, Gordon Dieterle; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11am at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would to express their gratitude to the entire staff at The Sanctuary at Wilmington Place and Hospice of Dayton for their love and compassion over the past years.
