Berneta "Janie" Shanks, born on October 19, 1959, passed away in the care of Hospice and family on Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Dorothy Shanks; her baby sister, Katrina Shanks; and spouse, Rodney Shaw.
She is survived by her sister, Julia Long from Xenia, OH; and her daughters Christina Markel (Charles) from Xenia, OH, Rochelle Stephens (Justin) from Blanchester, OH and Janelynn Beekman (Doug) from Xenia, OH. Janie started a career in Food Service during high school and for several years this was her passion. She then worked at Pet Warehouse, where she met several new lifelong friends, then changed her career to home health care, which brought her great joy in caring for others. Home Health Care is the career she retired from.
Her biggest pride and joy are her grandkids. She loved taking her grandkids out and having them over to do "grandma stuff". She enjoyed cooking and crocheting, getting outdoors, and being around family and friends. She has touched so many people with her smile, helping hands, and big heart. She has gained so many children over the years that she gained the nickname, "Momma Jane". She was the biggest Elvis fan. She loved to travel to many places with family and friends seeing many different states and venues, which she enjoyed so much.
One thing that everyone will remember the most about Janie is that she was a warrior and fighter that she never gave up, she never stop fighting. She fought Cancer for 18 years. She will be loved, missed, and remembered by many. Our warrior is now watching over us.
