Bernard W. "Big Ben" Kucharski, Sr., age 88, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at his home. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on April 21, 1920 to Joseph and Helen (Dereszkiewicz) Kucharski. Ben served in the Three C's and was a foreman for Univis Lens. He was the founder of Ben's Batteries in 1948. He enjoyed fishing at his cabin in Canada and mushroom hunting with family and friends. Ben was an avid sports fan and race horse owner. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 55 years, Edith May Carolus Kucharski; brothers, Charlie, Eddie, Stanley, Johnny, & Walter; and his sisters, Mary, Helen, & Barbara. Survivors include his three sons, Charles F. (Melody) of Fairborn, OH, Bernard W. Jr. of Dayton, OH, and Robert L. (Cecelia) of Dayton, OH; grandchildren, Ryan, Justin, Heather, Robyn, Nicholas, Johnny, Cindy, Jason, Ronnie & Cyrus; great grandchildren, Joel, Angelica, Alyssa, Jordan, & Libby; brother, Joe Kucharsky; sister, Sophia Gemza, Anna Cornelius, Alice Weidle, & Elizabeth (Liz) Riviello; special friends, Jack Turner, Mark Turner, Rex Lopez, Larry Heindl, & Enzo Alemeda; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Jack & Elsie Stuck; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 4104 Needmore Rd, Dayton. Interment will follow at Willow View Cemetery, Dayton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5-8 PM.
