Benjamin G. McDonald
Age 70, of Dayton and formerly of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2012.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Elouise James; two sisters, Betty James & Bertha Haslem; and by two brothers, Henry James Jr. & Frank James.
Ben is survived by his wife of the past 18 years, Albertine "Tina" McDonald; four children, Ben Jr. (Nicole) McDonald, Sonya (Michael) Goins, Frank (Magdalene) McDonald and Lewanna (Otis) Boyd; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four brothers, Ralph (Loretta), Walter (Louise), Alex (Jenny), Freddie Sr. James; five sisters, Elvira James, Elouise (Thomas) Gaddy, Josephine (Johnny) Gaddy, Dorothy Alexander & Beatrice Harris; and by his extended family & many good friends.
Ben served as a paratrooper in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired as a prison guard with 18 years of service and was Union Stewart with Local 5730. Ben was also active of the Grass Roots and many other organizations.
The family will be receiving friends from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Sunday, March 11 at Newcomer Funeral Home & Crematory, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Kettering. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. (Don't forget to "spring forward")
At a later date Ben's cremated remains will be buried at Dayton National Cemetery.
