KIRK, Bascom, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2012 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Nora Kirk; loving wife of 62 years, Margaret Kirk; siblings, Bruce Kirk, Neil Kirk, and Celestia Thompson.
He is survived by his children, Vallerie (Jim) Clemens and Ed Kirk; grandchildren, Jessie, Aaron, and Jenny; siblings, Robert (Mary) Kirk, Effigene Smith, and Christina (Kester) Green. Bascom came from a very humble beginning in Virginia during the Great Depression. He helped feed his younger brothers and sisters. He met Margaret at the Lee County Fair on the "Silver Bullet," and eloped on her 18th birthday. They moved to Dayton where he worked for GM for 30 years and during which time he opened his own business that became Kirk's Paving, that is owned and operated today by his son, Ed Kirk.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, with Frank Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. Family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
