Barbara D. Smith, age 84, of Dayton, passed away on January 14, 2024. She was born on September 10, 1939 to the late Floyd and Gertrude Fiste.
She was very selfless and caring. She shared her love through her actions and was always doing everything for everyone else. She was a great cook and made the best peanut butter fudge. If she had a free moment, you could find her buried in a book. Barbara was a true matriarch in her family, raising 4 children, 5 step-children and adopted 2 of her grandchildren. Her presence will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Smith; her daughter, Melody Rosemond; grandson, Jessie Taylor Mullins; great-grandson, Aaron Tarrent Jr.; and her brother, Floyd Fiste Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Richard Tames (Kathy Nesser), Sharlyn Walker, Karilyn Tames, Justin Smith and Brandon Smith (Shauna), Treva, Teresa, Tonya, Donald Jr. and Deion; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings: Norma Parrish, Sharon Fowler, Sandy Hobbs (Johnny) and Robert Fiste; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 4:00pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Newcomer North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, in Dayton, where the funeral service will begin at 4:00pm. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Donald at Medway Cemetery at a later date.
