Barbara Louise Smart

Barbara Louise "GG" Smart, age 89, of Dayton, passed away on October 20, 2023. She was born in Dayton, Ohio, on July 30, 1934, the daughter of the late R. Harold and Alice Lawrence.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Fred Smart; and her loving daughter, Linda Hillon.

Barbara is survived by her loving children, Gary Smart, Douglas (Tamara Sherrill) Smart and Mary Ann (James) Wells; grandchildren, Tiffany Bledsoe, Jenna (Mojo) Solis, Christina Latham, Leigha Fields, Daniel Smart, April (D.J. Watson) Hillon, Casey Wells and Jamie Wells; great grandchildren, Kaylah, Charlee, Chance, Cortez "Cory", Alexis "Lexi", Jacob, Ethan, Hannah, Austin, Casie, Jamie, Malek, Trey and Taliyah; great great grandchild, Dante; dear friend, Judy Seal; her "Beerman Girls"; and many other loving family and friends.

Barbara worked for many years in Retail, eventually retiring. She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years. She attended church at Greenmont Community Church, Oak St. Church, and Faircreek Church. She became a member of Faircreek church. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling, playing BINGO, organizing activities in her community, volunteering in a number of groups, camping, spending time in Florida, playing the occasional penny slot machines, having breakfast, shopping and walking in the mall. She adored her family and was devoted to them. One of her favorite pastimes was baking Christmas cookies and making candy for the holidays. When she married Fred, she took in his 4 children (all under the age of 6) and loved them as her own. She always rooted for the underdog and had a heart of gold. Barbara could be stubborn at times, but in the best of ways. She had a very giving soul and was there for anyone in need. She was outgoing and could make friends anywhere she went. She also had an obsession with Teddy Bears. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family and friends will keep her spirit alive, she will always be in their hearts.

Visitation will be held from 12:00pm-1:00pm, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd., Beavercreek, where a Celebration of her Life will begin at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia.
