Barbara Jean Smith

Barbara J. Smith, Age 67, of Kettering, OH, departed this life on April 5, 2011 at the Hospice of Dayton after a lengthy battle with cancer and heart issues.

Born on June 4, 1943, Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Mattie and Charlie Price, son Vince Zurface and sister Margie Price.

She is survived by her husband Richard Smith; Brothers Gerald Price (Wretha) of Union City, OH , Kenneth Price of Beavercreek, OH, Charles Price (Susie) of Wyoming, OH, and Sister Brenda Parker (John) of Riverside, OH; Sons Rodney Zurface of Dayton, OH, George Zurface of Wilmington, OH, and Daughter Terri Lynn Nafziger (Lynn) of Dublin, OH; Grandsons Eric Zurface (US Army), Josh Zurface of Wyoming, OH, Justin Zurface, Texas, Casey Snelling of Wilmington, OH, Noah and Jake Zurface of Port William, OH, Jordan Zurface, New Lebanon, OH, Christopher Zurface, Dayton, OH, Alex and Bradley Nafziger, Dublin, OH, and Grand Daughters Stephanie Zurface, Dayton, OH, and Lauren Zurface, OH, and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was an avid gardener and enjoyed her time in the yard nurturing growth of her favorite flowers. Being an avid bird watcher and feeder, Barbara had a great hummingbird following at her home. She enjoyed helping mow the grass at home and spending hours outside working in the fresh air. Barbara was a dedicated reader sharing her books with family and friends. Barbara dearly loved her bothers and sisters, her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the time they spent with her when ever they could be with her and provided advice and guidance for her children and grand children as well as fiends when she was asked. Barbara enjoyed traveling and made many trips with her husband Richard to places such as Niagara Falls, Myrtle Beach and Hawaii; visiting Richards Son and his wife in Lakewood, CA, many trips to Minnesota (where she helped provide care for Richard's former mother-in-law) and visits with many other relatives and friends. Barbara and Richard were members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Kettering, OH.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 8, 2011 from 5-7 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The service will follow at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington, Avenue, Dayton, OH 45420, or to the charity of your choice in memory of Barbara.
