Barbara M. Goff

September 22, 1934 — September 9, 2019

Barbara Goff passed away in Dayton on September 9, 2019, just short of her 85th birthday. She was born September 22, 1934, the daughter of Marvin and Mary Marshall Allen. Sadly, Mary passed away when Barbara was just one.

Barbara grew up in Dayton, graduating from Wilbur Wright High School in 1952. She married Edward McCracken in 1952. Ed was a natural athlete and homecoming king at Wilbur Wright and Barbara a cheerleader. They had three daughters. Most of Ed's career was spent at Monarch-Printers in accounting. He died of cancer on June 9, 1983.

She subsequently married William "Bill" Goff in 1985. Bill retired from the Dayton School Board and subsequently served as a Presbyterian pastor. He passed away in 2004.

For many years Barbara worked for the Dayton City Schools Board of Education. Her no nonsense style, organizational skills, good memory, and ability to follow procedures served the Board well. A 1973 news article lauded her efforts at Kemp School, the only one in Dayton with a one hundred percent student immunization rate.

Barbara was an avid card player and usually unbeatable. She especially enjoyed poker and invented a Shanghai Rummy variant.

Barbara is survived by sisters, Sue Stauffer, Jean Stone, Connie Baer, Kay Jernigan, and Jane Smart; brother Tom Allen; daughters Beverly Clay, Brenda Nelson, Beth Self; five grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren.

A private service is planned.
