Barbara J. Fields, age 84, of Dayton, Ohio passed away September 22, 2023. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 30, 1939 to the late George W. and Thelma Lou (Sexton) Abercrombie.
Barbara loved her family and people in general. She loved talking and telling a good story. She said it was her Scottish blood. She loved working around people, especially at Goodwill for many years...where she also loved shopping. She was an avid gardener and working in her yard and tending to her plants gave her so much joy. She has a green thumb and could make things grow beautifully. She was also a voracious reader, able to go through many books a week when the weather kept her out of her yard. She loved angels and decorated with many of them.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert S. Fields; her two brothers, Donald G. and Douglas W. Abercrombie, her aunt, Virgie L. Abercromie (who took on the role of caregiver of the 4 children, along with her brother, when their mother died while they were young); nephews, Ronald Fields and Cleveland Howard.
She is survived by her sister, Bonita K Payton; her 4 children, Robin Adams, Sharon Johnson, Sandy (Larry) Ellis and Robert (Rhonda Robinson) Fields; 10 grandchildren, Maggie (James) Parks, Lindsey Johnson & fiancé Jason Proctor, Johnna (Tony) Smith, Jake Johnson, Ciera (Noah) Johnson, Chris Castle, Amber Castle & fiancé Nicholas, Ashley (Duane) DeGroat, Jessica Fields & fiancé Danny Hole, Michael Fields & fiancé Samantha Shoemaker; 11 great-grandchildren (#12 on the way) and many other special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on September 28, 2023 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm, with services beginning at 1:30pm, all at Newcomer Funeral Home - North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Rd. Dayton, OH 45424.
