Barbara (Barb) Ann Ellison Evans was born June 14, 1945, to parents, Edward Ellison and Luella Ellison. On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, Barbara went home to be with the Lord.
Barbara accepted Christ at a young age. As an adult, Barbara was a longtime member of The Truth Christian Service Center. She later joined The Marketplace Movement and became an ordained deacon, fulfilling several roles and duties within the church.
Barbara graduated from Dunbar High School in 1963. She also studied at Central State University. Barbara was a police officer for the city of Dayton. She later moved to Washington and worked as a correctional officer before returning to Dayton to care for her mother. Barbara went on to become a case manager for the Dayton YWCA shelter for women. She then became a case manager at Dayton Wesley Community Center. Barbara also volunteered with the DATV broadcasting station assisting with various programs.
Barbara enjoyed traveling, participating in church activities, and helping others. She had an amazing sense of humor and always "kept it real." The most important thing to Barbara was her family. She supported everyone in all that they did. She is loved and will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her daughter, Desiree Evans; brother, James Ellison Jr.; and two sisters Queen Esther Gladden and Betty Jean Ellison. She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Damon Evans, and Curtis Evans; five grandchildren, Aaron, De'Jah (Jory), Deonna (Collin), Zachary (Adena), and Diamonde (Ethan); five great-grandchildren, Veda, Xavier, Amari, Alaia, and Ethan Jr.; three brothers, Dwight Ellison, Harvey Lee Ellison, and Edward Ellison, Jr.; four sisters, Eddie Mae Ellison, Sheila Ellison, Debra Ellison, and Dee Ellison; special nieces and nephews, Roslynn Ellison, Sara Tina (Martin) Finley, Kenneth (Wanda) Ellison, Curtis Ellison; dear cousins of the Lockley and Peterson families; and dear friend, Debra Ramos. Furthermore, Barbara will be missed by a host of cousins, relatives and friends that loved her dearly.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm on Monday, November 27, 2023 at The MarketPlace Movement Church (3300 W 3rd St, Dayton, OH 45417). Funeral Service will be officiated by Bishop Robert Lyons Jr. at 12:00 pm following visitation. Barbara will then be laid to rest at West Memory Gardens (6722 Hemple Road, Moraine, OH 45439).
