Barbara Jean Carder

Barbara Jean Carder, age 79 of Dayton, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024. 

She was formerly employed with Otterbein Senior Living community, where she worked in housekeeping, making a positive impact on both residents and staff alike.

Barbara was known for her vibrant personality, marked by a remarkable spirit of stubbornness that often endeared her to those who knew her. Her passion for life was evident in her numerous hobbies and interests; she thrived on adventures, particularly cherishing family trips to Lake Cumberland, Lake St. Mary's, and Caesar's Creek. An avid and impressive water skier, Barbara created lasting memories with her loved ones.

An enthusiast of travel, Barbara loved beach destinations and spent time in Charleston, South Carolina. Her adventurous spirit even led her to take a solo trip out west for four weeks, showcasing her independent nature. In addition to her love for travel, Barbara loved shopping and had a particular affinity for jewelry. She also enjoyed the thrill of the casino and playing slot machines.

Barbara is survived by her loving children, Robert (Sherlyn) Carder II and Lori Carder; grandchildren, Sydney, Stephanie, Christine, Hayley, Kendall, Chea, and Chena; and sisters, Shirley Short and Linda Chapman. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 40 years, Robert K. Carder; sister, Charlotte Gebhart; and brother, Leslie Wilson.

Her legacy will live on through the cherished memories she created and the love she shared with her family and friends. Barbara Jean Carder will be remembered as a strong, spirited woman who embraced life to the fullest.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024 from 11 am to 12 pm at Newcomer Centerville Chapel (820 Miamisburg-Centerville Road, Dayton, OH 45459). Funeral service will begin at 12 pm. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 12 pm at Cherry Fork Cemetery in Cherry Fork, OH.
