Barbara Jean August, 92, of Dayton passed away on Friday, July 2, 2021 surrounded by her devoted children, Michael and Christina.
BJ was an only child of the late Harold & Clementine (Wareika) Thomas, born in Detroit, MI on March 21, 1929.
The family moved back to Dayton, Ohio when she was a young child and she spent many of her childhood days with her beloved grandma, Agatha Warieka.
BJ graduated from Kiser High School and began working at The Ohio Bell Company. She retired after 33 years as a switchboard operator.
BJ married Robert August on July 31, 1954. They celebrated 54 anniversaries. Together, they provided a stable, reverent home for their children. Bob preceded BJ on August 1, 2008, and she has spent the last 13 years missing him.
BJ and Bob enjoyed family vacations with their children in Florida, traveling to explore different places, and enjoyed long drives through the years.
BJ was a devoted Catholic and lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She was also an animal lover. She provided a loving home to many dogs and cats through her life. Both are qualities she instilled in her children.
With good care and commitment of her children she was able to enjoy her home until April of this year. Special thanks to Lois Holt, who assisted the family at home and the staff and nurses of Cypress Pointe Health Campus for their excellent care and kindness during her final days.
Her quick wit and dry sense of humor will be missed by all who loved her.
BJ is survived by her children, Christina (Christopher Brunsky) August; Michael (Cindy) August.
Grandchildren: Ryan (Siearra) August, Samantha (Roger) Nienberg, and Jason (Marie) Templeton, Molly Brunsky and Matthew Brunsky. BJ had 9 great grandchildren.
Final resting will be beside her husband, Bob, at Calvary Cemetery with a private graveside service. A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church at a later date.
Friends may make contributions in her name to Montgomery County Humane Society or Dream4pets.org memory of her – this would make her smile.
