Avice Mae Whallon, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully departed this life on August 23, 2024, in Troy, Ohio. She was born on December 13, 1943, in Ironton, Ohio, to the late Albert and Anna Moore. Avice was a beacon of love and joy in the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
A graduate of Dawson Bryant High School in Coal Grove, Ohio, Avice dedicated many years of her life to her career, retiring in 2017 from Grace Works at Bethany Village. In her retirement, she cherished precious moments with her family and happily engaged in her hobbies. Avice had a unique passion for collecting cows, a charming quirk that brought smiles to many faces. She was also an avid gardener, skillfully nurturing potted plants that brightened her home, a testament to her nurturing spirit. Cooking and sewing were among her many talents, allowing her to create not just meals but lasting memories with her loved ones. Avice truly reveled in the joy and warmth of the holidays, crafting beautiful traditions that her family will carry on in her honor.
Avice's proudest accomplishments centered around her family, which she adored with a love that knew no bounds. She leaves behind her devoted sons, Robert Whallon (Robin Smith) and Jeremy Whallon, who will continue to cherish her memory. Her legacy also includes her grandsons, David Strine, Jr. (Felicia Gomez) and Joshua Brenner; family friend, Annie Davis, along with seven great-grandchildren who were the light of her life.
Avice is survived by her sisters: Evelyn Jones, Dorothy Collins, Faye Ridgeway (Will), and Mary Charter (Lawrence), who will miss her dearly, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who were touched by her warmth and kindness. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Penny Sue Strine and Linda Whallon, along with five sisters and one brother, all of whom now welcome her into their eternal embrace.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Avice’s life at Newcomer Funeral Home, North Chapel, 4104 Needmore Road, Dayton, on Friday, August 30, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM. Burial to follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, New Carlisle. As we remember Avice Mae Whallon, let us honor her spirit by cherishing the love she shared and the countless moments that defined her remarkable journey.
