Augustus E. Vanderpool, "Gus", "Pap", "Big G", age 64, lifelong resident of Dayton, passed away September 25, 2022 at his home surrounded by loving family.
He was born May 16, 1958 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Elmer Eugene Vanderpool and Patricia (Thacker) Hicks. Gus was a graduate of Stivers High School, Class of 1976, where he played on the basketball team. He was the owner and operator of Gus' Body Shop. Gus loved fast cars, painting and working on them. Most of all he loved his family and friends and would do anything for them.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Jon Jon Vanderpool, 2 granddaughters, Kimber Lafever, Arionna Coleman, and 1 sister Norma Gene Vanderpool.
Gus is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Janie (Miracle) Vanderpool; 7 children, Rebecca (Reggie) Farmer Walters, Stephanie Vanderpool, Jason (Rachel) Vanderpool, Jonny (Alyssa) Vanderpool, Elainia (Carlos) Morocho, Ashley Vanderpool, and "Little Gus" (Shannon) Vanderpool. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Kim, Regina, Terri and Libby; 3 brothers, Greg, Doug and Eugene; many other loved ones, friends, and many that he was a father figure too.
Gus will always be remembered for his sense of humor, love of his family and friends, opening his house to anyone, and for burning rubber. Gus was deeply loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Newcomer Kettering Chapel, 3940 Kettering Blvd, where funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Trissell Cemetery.
