Audrey S. Takacs

December 14, 1947 — June 14, 2014

AUDREY (PUMILIA) TAKACS, 66

Audrey Sue Takacs, age 66 of Dayton, Ohio, passed away in her sleep, on Saturday, June 14, 2014. She was born to the late Paul Pumilia and Audrey (Gebele) Pumilia on December 14, 1947.

Audrey attended Julienne High School, before attending the University of Dayton, where she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. She was a teacher at Holy Angels and Corpus Christi, in Dayton, Ohio from 1973 to 1980. The duration of her career was as a teacher in the Trotwood Madison School District for over 30 years, were she retired on June 12, 2014.

Family and friends were Audrey's delight. She grew up spending time with her cousins and her sister. Audrey loved her family deeply and spent as much time with them as possible. She also loved to entertain and frequently had friends over to her house. Audrey found reasons to celebrate every day and always found something to be thankful for. Her passions were her garden, working with her students, and her "girls" (daughters). She had a large garden plot at Wegerzyn Garden Center, as well as a beautiful garden at her home. She had even begun a small garden at Madison Park Elementary, where she and the students ate salads from the lettuce that they had grown.

Audrey also loved to travel. She visited numerous countries, starting with a two month long mission trip to Brazil when she was 21yrs old. Over her lifetime, she also went to Italy, Mexico, France, Greece, England, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Monaco, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. She had also enjoyed traveling to various locations within the United States. She had been to Sedona, California, Florida, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, New York, Maryland, Put In Bay, and Chicago. For her 65th Birthday, she was brave enough to go skydiving with her daughters, and a few months later she went zip lining with them in Hocking Hills. She had also taken classes to learn scuba diving, and how to shoot a gun. Audrey knew how to live life to the fullest.

Audrey is survived by her Daughters, Megan Golden and Alana Takacs, sister Paula Bueno, niece Monica Pappas, granddaughters Hannah and Hailey Golden, and numerous cousins in the Hamann and Lamb Family, who were like brothers and sisters to her; John, Ed, Mike, Duane, David, Teresa, Mary, Pam, Paul, Dean, Greg, Marc, and Linda. She also leaves behind countless students and close friends whose lives she touched with her generous loving spirit.

Audrey's wishes were to have a private cremation, which was provided by Newcomer Funeral Home and Crematory. The family would like to thank all of those who have been there to support them after this unexpected and sudden loss. Audrey had often said she did not want people moping and being sad when she passed. She wanted people to be happy and celebrate her life. In Honor of her wishes, there will be a Memorial/Celebration of Life Party held at Cox Arboretum on Saturday, July 26th, 2014, from 5pm to 9pm, in their Fifth Third Conference Center. Dinner will be provided, followed by words from the family, as well as a celebration of the extraordinary life that Audrey lived.

As a Tribute in Audrey's Honor, there will be a Memorial Bench, with her name on it, at The Wegerzyn Garden Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made towards the cost of the memorial bench. These donations can be sent to Five Rivers Metro Park, 409 East Monument Ave, 3rd Floor, Dayton, OH 45402. ** Please state on the donation that it is in Audrey Takacs' memory and goes to Wegerzyn gardens** Donations can also be brought to the memorial celebration. The bench will be in Wegerzyn Gardens for 10 years. The families hope is that anyone who knew and loved Audrey can go sit on her bench, and talk with her whenever they feel the need.
