Ashby T. Worrell Jr., a cherished soul and beloved figure in the hearts of many, passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2025, in Kettering, Ohio. Born on July 30, 1928, in Portsmith, Virginia, Ashby lived a remarkable life filled with laughter, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to those around him.
A man of profound integrity and humor, he built a career at AT&T where he was known not just for his hard work, but also for his warm presence that brought joy to his colleagues and customers alike. His ability to put others first and lend a helping hand defined Ashby’s character, making him a beloved friend and mentor to many.
Ashby served his country with honor in the Air Force, a testament to his strong sense of duty and patriotism. After his military service, he continued to embody that spirit in all aspects of his life. His passions included fishing, where he found peace and contentment, and dining out, particularly loving the simple joys of places like Chick-fil-A and Bob Evans, affectionately known as Uncle Bob's.
He was married to his wife, Norma Worrell, for an extraordinary 67 years. Their bond was a beautiful example of love and partnership that will forever resonate in the memories shared by those who knew them. Ashby’s legacy lives on through his nieces—Jean Worrell Goad, Drucilla Worrell Pittman, and Gladys Worrell Pilarski—who will carry cherished memories of their uncle.
Though Ashby is no longer with us, his laughter and kindness will echo in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. He leaves behind a treasure trove of memories, steeped in love and good humor, and a community forever touched by his spirit.
He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Woodland Cemetery in Dayton.
